Children’s Hearings Scotland appoints new National Convener and Chief Executive

Children’s Hearings Scotland is delighted to announce the appointment of Elliot Jackson as National Convener and Chief Executive. Elliot will take up his new post in early October 2019.

As National Convener and Chief Executive Elliot will be responsible providing strategic leadership to Children’s Hearings Scotland.

Garry Coutts, Board Chair at Children’s Hearings Scotland, said, “I’m really excited about Elliot’s appointment. Children’s Hearings Scotland is about putting children and young people at the centre of all we do, and I know Elliot will be listening to them and ensuring we hear their views and that we act on them.

“With his vast experience of children’s hearings he is brilliantly placed to work with our fantastic volunteers whose knowledge and experience is invaluable in identifying where the System needs to change.

“Between our volunteers and the voice of children and young people we can really help to make a difference.”

Elliot adds, “It is an immense honour to have been appointed as the next National Convener and Chief Executive of Children’s Hearings Scotland. I will be leading and supporting a group of talented volunteers and staff into a new era whereby collaboration between partners continues to improved decisions for children and young people that need our help”.

“We must strive to ensure that Scotland is the best place in the world to grow up and, as National Convener, I will be committed to improving the hearings experience for children and young people by constantly listening to their views and driving a real sense of community and diversity within the Children’s Panel.”

He takes over from Boyd McAdam who retires as National Convener and Chief Executive in October 2019.

Elliot was previously Depute Chief Executive at Children’s Hearings Scotland. In this role he worked with the National Convener and Board overseeing the implementation of volunteer and corporate planning. Prior to joining Children’s Hearings Scotland, he held the post of Head of Planning and Strategy at the Scottish Children’s Reporter Administration. Elliot has also spent time as a Children’s Panel Member.
