Tayside training event is a huge success 19 October 2018Last month, the Tayside Area Support Team held a training event which was attended by around 60 Panel and Area Support Team members. The training event titled, Inside The Hearing, focused on the wellbeing of children and young people in the Children’s Hearings System. Hosted by Dundee City Council, Inside The Hearing, featured a number of guest presenters including keynote speakers Liz Brabender and Thomas Timlin from the Independent Care Review. Tayside’s Area Convener, Paul Smith, said, “Liz and Thomas gave an interesting presentation on the background to the review, how it is being taken forward and what stage it is currently at. “We received excellent feedback about the presentation from those attending. It generated a number of questions from delegates on topics including the stigma attached to attending a children’s hearing and how this might be addressed.” Everyone at the event attended three or four workshops which ran across the day. These included: Decisions, Reasons, Appeals and Feedback delivered by the Scottish Children’s Reporter Administration, and a Mental Health and Advocacy workshop led by Independent Advocacy Perth & Kinross. Feedback from the workshops was extremely positive with those attending suggesting that the sessions were very informative: Our volunteers are awe inspiring.
