This page should help you if you would like to request information held by Children’s Hearings Scotland (CHS) in our capacity as a public authority, or request information about you that is held by CHS.

Personal information requests

Data protection legislation gives you the right to request copies of the information CHS holds about you. A request for your personal information is called a Subject Access Request. 

CHS will consider your request in accordance with the requirements of applicable data protection legislation. CHS will only provide the requested information where you have satisfied us of your identity. 

To request your personal information, please put your request in writing - either in a letter or an email to CHS at the details below:

Please make sure you include the following information:

  • your name
  • your address
  • the full details of the information that you are requesting
  • a telephone number so we can contact you to clarify any details if necessary

CHS will respond within 40 days of receipt of your written request and valid proof of ID where necessary.

Data protection complaints

The Information Commissioner is responsible for enforcing data protection legislation. If you are unhappy with how CHS has dealt with your personal information, or how we have responded to your request for information, you may wish to raise your concerns with the Information Commissioner.

Freedom of Information requests

The Freedom of Information (Scotland) Act 2002 gives you the right to access official information held by public authorities.

Children’s Hearings Scotland (CHS) has adopted the Model Publication Scheme 2015, which is produced by the Scottish Information Commissioner. CHS already publishes a lot of information under this scheme. Please see the information panel to the right hand side of this page for more information about our Publication Scheme.

If you wish to access information under the Freedom of Information (Scotland) Act 2002 which is not available under our publication scheme, you must make your request in writing (including email) or in any form that can be kept for future use, for example, an audio recording or video tape.

If you have made a request and are unhappy with the response you received from CHS (or have not had a response), you have the right to request a review. Please put your request for review in writing. You must do this no later than 40 working days after receiving a response from CHS. If you have not received a response at all from CHS, you have 40 working days after the end of the 20 working day period for responding to your request. Environmental Information

If you want information about the environment, your request will be dealt with under separate environmental information rules called the Environmental Information (Scotland) Regulations.

If you require environmental information you can make your request in writing (letter or  email), on the telephone or in person, using the contact details below. Children's Hearings Scotland (CHS) will respond to your request within 20 working days, however if the request is complex and voluminous, we may extend this by a further 20 working days.
