The Children's Panel - life changing

2019 Recruitment Campaign Development

Help us to inspire a diverse range of people to join the Children’s Panel

Every year, we need to recruit 500 new volunteer Panel Members who play a vital role in supporting Scotland’s children and young people. And, we need your help to inspire more people to get involved.

We do this through an annual recruitment campaign and our aim is to attract the best people for the role.

This year, we are developing our Force for Good recruitment campaign that will run for the next three years.

We want our campaign to encourage as many people as possible from a diverse range of ages and backgrounds to volunteer for the Children’s Panel. This includes more people who identify as male and young people.

As part of the design development process, we’ve asked our design agency and the Frameworks Institute to hold a development day and we’d love for you to be involved.

How will the day work?

On the day, we will run a number of collaborative exercises with small groups that will explore the Force for Good theme, where we will ask people to help shape the tone, imagery and ideas that will form the campaign.

We’re looking for people who are happy to give up their time to discuss and share their views in a group situation about the campaign we are developing. This may involve discussing how the campaign should refer to the Children’s Hearings System or those with lived experience, but we will not be asking anyone to recount or discuss their own personal experiences or discuss issues with the care system more generally. We are just looking for opinions on the marketing campaign itself.

Who can apply?

We’re looking for people from, in and around the central belt area to join us (if you’re outwith this area and want to take part, please do get in touch and we’ll explore other options for you to take part), that:

•             have lived experience of the Children’s Hearings System

•             are Panel Members aged 18 - 30

•             and/or Panel Members who identify as male

We will also be asking some of our colleagues who work in and around the Children’s Hearings System to join us on the day.

The event will be hosted at our offices: Thistle House, 91 Haymarket Terrace, Edinburgh, EH12 5HE on Friday 3 May 2019 1pm lunch for a 1.30pm start, finishing at 5pm. We’ll cover your travel expenses too.

There are approximately 30 places available and they will be selected at random just after the closing date on Thursday 18 April 2019. We’ll be back in touch via email.

How can I be part of the day?

If you’d like to attend, drop us a line: communications@chs.gsi.gov.uk with your name, telephone number, confirmation that you're over 18 years of age and why you're interested in coming along. If you want to speak to us about the day, you can call us on 0131 244 3696 (and ask for Lara or Lou).

We look forward to hearing your ideas!
