The Children's Panel - life changing

Area Convener - West Dunbartonshire

Voluntary: All reasonable travel and out-of-pocket expenses reimbursed in line with CHS’ volunteer expenses policy
10-15 hours per week

Children’s Hearing Scotland (CHS) is recruiting for the role of Area Convener for West Dunbartonshire. This is an exciting volunteer opportunity to lead, provide direction and support to the Area Support Team of West Dunbartonshire.

CHS recruits, supports and trains Panel Members for Scotland’s unique Children’s Hearings system.  Panel Members make life changing decisions with and for vulnerable children and young people in local communities across Scotland.  There are twenty-two ASTs across Scotland playing a critical role in the delivery and administration of the Children’s Panel as well as promoting change and improvement.

The Area Convener provides leadership and direction to the AST, ensuring that the AST fulfils its responsibilities to support panel members and carries out the key responsibilities.  This includes the recruitment, selection, induction and practice observation, for rota management and for supporting the volunteer role of Panel Members who are charged with making the best decisions for children and young people.

The Area Convener will report regularly to CHS to share information about trends, challenges and good practice, so that the quality of practice across Scotland is consistent. The Area Convener, along with fellow AST members, will act as ambassadors for the Children’s Panel and represent it to other organisations and employers locally.

The National Convener’s office is now seeking to appoint an Area Convener to the West Dunbartonshire Area Support Team.

Applicants should be able to demonstrate a strong commitment to and understanding of the ethos, values and principles of the Children's Hearings System as well as an understanding of the role of Panel Members.

Application packs can be downloaded from the right hand side panel.  For informal discussion, please contact Anne Munro on 0131 244 3696 in the first instance.  Completed application forms should be sent to: anne.munro@chs.gsi.gov.uk by 1200 hours on Friday 30 August 2019.

All reasonable travel and out-of-pocket expenses reimbursed in line with CHS’ volunteer expenses policy.
